  • Contains processes to help companies gain control of the incident lifecycle, which translates to improved service levels.
  • Contains its own definitions for key terms.
  • Supported by an established and well-defined ITIL certification scheme for IT staff.
  • It is NOT a step-by-step methodology.
  • ITIL is software independent. ITIL leaves it to practitioner to pick the appropriate supporting software.

  • Developed by the United Kingdom's Office of Government Commerce (OGC) in the 1980s

  • ITSMF − IT Service Management Forum USA (itSMF USA) is an independent, globally recognized leader dedicated to IT operational excellence. Good for finding local interest groups, publications, and training.

  • Best Practice − A group of best practices products.
  • Pink Elephant − A global consultancy that specializes in helping corporations implement the ITIL framework. Also assesses tools for ITIL framework compatibility.
