History

In September 2001, BOSS launched its Windows migration product, U-Win. When just a few days later it won the "Best of Show" award for network utilities at the Networld+Interop show, lots of people wondered who these guys were and how a "start-up" company could be so on the mark with an initial product launch. The truth is the BOSS team of development experts, whether they knew it or not, had been working on the "development" of the U-Win and DiagWin products for close to a decade.

Founded by Maha Mahadevan in 1991, BOSS started as a consultancy providing a range of development and problem-solving activities for a variety of large scale organizations, including Siemens Energy and Automation, Scientific Atlanta, Voice Stream and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than just a staff augmentation operation, BOSS not only supplied additional "arms and legs" when required, it also took pride in working collaboratively with clients to apply additional brainpower to unique problems and challenges that occurred in each environment. Working so closely with clients, BOSS learned quickly that "best practices" occasionally mean cookie cutter approaches that, while technically sound, did not get the job done. So its mantra quickly became "best practices with a twist" - put all available resources to solve the problem and, when those don't work, think of something else.
